The Many Moosehead
Seasons
January through
March
Snowmobilers
can select from a vast area of interconnecting groomed trails, hundreds
of miles of unplowed logging roads and unlimited lake travel. Sundown
guests may snowmobile directly from cottages. No need to trailer.
Ice
fishing, snowshoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing have always
been favorite winter sports, here in the Rockwood area.
May through September
The
Spring and Fall fishing on Moosehead Lake is second to none; the lake
is abundant with brook trout, and land locked salmon. Fly fishing in
our nearby brooks, rivers and streams will prove to be and enjoyable
experience.
Water
sports include swimming, boating, water skiing and sailing. If you are
looking for terrific water excitement, try whitewater rafting on the
Penobscot and Kennebec Rivers.
Those
who prefer, may just want to rest and relax in a picturesque setting.
Moose, deer and bear watching are favorite relaxation activities here
in the Rockwood area.
September through
November
and the Fall Hunting Season
Fall
is the prettiest of seasons, here in the Moosehead region. Mother Nature
is at her best. The trees are ablaze with different shades of yellow,
orange and red. September heralds bear hunting season; followed by grouse,
woodcock and deer hunting in October and November (only deer archery
in October).
Rockwood
is traditionally one of the best hunting areas in Maine. There are hardwood
ridges, swaps and clear-cut areas to choose from. Many a trophy deer
has come from our vast uncrowded forest.
